Summer internship at i2Cool

Beyond raising funds and awareness for farmers, I yearned to enlarge the scope of my fairtrade project with ethical, sustainable, and innovative solutions for a more significant lasting impact. Thus, I applied and became an intern at i2Cool, an ESG-strategy (Environmental, Social, and Governance) startup that invented a novel energy-free daytime passive radiative cooling technology to reduce the high energy consumption in buildings and assist in decarbonization.

The goal of i2Cool is to achieve environmental and social impacts, mitigating the energy shortage while facilitating an overall sustainable development. Commercializing the technology, the team created the electricity-free iPaint innovation that blocks thermal radiation and dissipates heat into cold outer space. Thus, the iPaint provides a cooling effect on applied objects and significantly reduces a building’s exterior surface temperature by up to 30 degrees celsius!

As an intern at i2 Cool, I played various roles such as conducting research to increase environmental & social impacts, aiding lab experiments to enhance the DPRC technology, and assisting in outreach efforts for the iPaint technology. Furthermore, I participated in numerous networking events that resulted in many meaningful exchanges with entrepreneurs, other related startups, and potential customers.

With great energy-saving potential, iPaint has reached both local and international parties. Currently, the surface area of iPaint has reached 8450 ft2, translating to 22,757 kWh of energy saved and 13,654 kg of carbon emissions reduced in Hong Kong!
